Expanding Knowledge on Architectural Representation Techniques

The Assignment

To create an image of Peter Zumthor's Saint Benedict Chapel in Switzerland using a hybrid of representation techniques.

My Approach

To use a hybrid of physical and digital tools, I began with a 3D render produced in Vray for Rhino using a provided 3D model of the structure. I then applied a monochromatic blue filter on the image with other textures and printed it out. I attempted to outline some of the prominent "bones" or structures to the overall building using needle and thread, sewing into the paper. This was scaned into a PDF, and then Photoshopped back onto the original image. I also included a scan of the "messy" back of the paper, filled with all the hidden stragglers of thread. I inverted the entire image to create a diptych.
